New Evidence Confirms the Role of Nucleotides in Supporting Healthy Aging

Several data present in literature have already demonstrated some beneficial effects of nucleotides in enhancing quality of life and general health. As the global population ages, maintaining cognitive sharpness, muscle strength, and metabolic health becomes increasingly vital.  Recently, Prosol commissioned a clinical study to verify nucleotides ability to improve distinct physiological domains in aging population.
The aim of this new study, published on Nutrients, was to examine the effects of the administration of dietary nucleotides—natural compounds found in yeast—in improving neurogenesis, physical performance, inflammatory modulation and body composition in older adults.

The data obtained made it possible to highlight the important roles nucleotides play in human metabolism.

Materials & Methods

The 10-week trial involved 69 physically independent adults aged 60–75 who maintained spontaneous physical activity (e.g., walking, household chores).

Participants were divided into three groups:

  1. Yeast Nucleotide (YN) Group received RiboDIET® (250 mg/day)
  2. Neuro-Based Nucleotide (NF) Group received RiboCARE® Neuro (150 mg/day)
  3. Placebo Group

Products used in the clinical study: RiboDIET®, RiboCARE® Neuro

Key Findings from the Study

Figure 1. The table provides a concise summary of the main expected effects of this supplementation in older adults with an active lifestyle, based on percentage changes in each variable according to statistical significance and effect size. For a more comprehensive statistical interpretation of this figure, the reader is referred to the tables provided in the Results section. YN: RiboDIET® solution. NF: RiboCARE® Neuro solution.

Cognitive Function Enhancement

RiboCARE® Neuro was associated with an 18% improvement in executive function, as measured by the Trail Making Test B. This enhancement correlated with increased levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a neurotrophin critical for neuroplasticity and synaptic function.
Both RiboCARE® Neuro and RiboDIET® outperformed placebo in measures of processing speed and cognitive flexibility, indicating a broader cognitive benefit.

  • RiboCARE® Neuro appears particularly suitable for individuals seeking targeted cognitive enhancement.
  • RiboDIET® provides complementary support through a broader nutrient matrix.

Anti-Inflammatory and Antioxidant Benefits

Participants supplemented with RiboDIET® exhibited significant reductions in key inflammatory cytokines:

  • Interleukin-6 (IL-6): −9.8%
  • Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α): −13.9%

In both supplement groups, oxidative stress markers (F2-isoprostanes) decreased by 37%, while intracellular levels of glutathione — a major endogenous antioxidant — increased by 17%.

  • RiboDIET® is indicated for inflammatory conditions and systemic immune support.
  • RiboCARE® Neuro contributes to the mitigation of oxidative damage and supports redox balance.

Improved Physical Performance

Mobility and muscular function were also positively influenced. In the Timed Up and Go Test, RiboCARE® Neuro users showed a 10.3% improvement, compared to 5.9% with RiboDIET®.
Moreover, both groups demonstrated a 30% increase in lower-body endurance (assessed via the 30-second Chair Stand Test) relative to placebo.

  • RiboCARE® Neuro may be particularly effective for supporting mobility and fall prevention.
  • RiboDIET® contributes to general physical capacity and endurance maintenance.

Body Composition and Metabolic Health

Unlike placebo participants — who experienced an increase in fat mass (+5%) and a decline in lean muscle mass (−2.2%) — individuals in the RiboCARE® Neuro and RiboDIET® groups maintained stable body composition throughout the intervention.

  • RiboDIET®, with its comprehensive nutrient profile, may aid metabolic regulation.
  • RiboCARE® Neuro supports energy metabolism and lean mass preservation at the cellular level.

Conclusions

These results underscore the potential of nucleotides as effective, science-backed ingredients for developing supplements aimed at supporting healthy aging: the study confirms that nucleotide supplementation—particularly when combined with light physical activity—can deliver measurable benefits on muscle function, cognitive health, metabolic balance, and inflammatory status in older adults.

Individually or in synergy, RiboCARE® Neuro and RiboDIET® offer tailored strategies for those seeking scientifically grounded nutritional support for aging well.
For companies formulating next-generation products for the senior population, Prosol’s nucleotide-based solutions offer a proven, natural approach to promoting vitality, mobility, and resilience against age-related decline. This research provides a strong foundation for innovation in the healthy aging supplement category.
